Dentures
Full or partial dentures are removable prosthetics; this means that they are removable appliances that can be used to replace multiple missing teeth to full sets. Dentures are designed to look and function like your natural teeth.
Dentures can improve aesthetics as they visibly fill in the spaces where your teeth were originally. They also improve your bites function and make it easier to eat.
What type of dentures do we provide?
Acrylic Dentures
Acrylic dentures are made from acrylic which is a type of plastic material that can be moulded into the shape of your mouth. This material is easily adaptable if your mouth changes in time, for example addition of other teeth can be added if you lose another tooth and if the denture becomes loose it can be re-lined to fit the shape of your mouth better.
Chrome Dentures
Chrome dentures are made from metal. The denture has a metal cobalt base (which sits on your gums) and a plastic acrylic that attaches the denture teeth. However unlike acrylic dentures, chrome dentures can’t be adapted, for example you can’t have additional teeth after the denture is completed.
Full Dentures
You can have full dentures that replace all your teeth or if you only have a few gaps you can have a partial denture to fill the spaces in your mouth. Dentures can be held in by the natural suction of your gums, metal clasps that grip onto your natural teeth or you can buy products such as Fixodent to hold the denture in place when you eat and talk. Dentures can also be fitted onto implants.
How are Dentures made?
Dentures are made in multiple stages to make sure they function and look as best as possible.
Impressions will be taken at the fist appointment to make a mould of your teeth and gums. The next appointment the dentist will take an impression of your bite in a wax material and maybe another impression is also required for a more accurate result. This helps the lab work out how you bite and shows them where to position the teeth. Then you will have a try in appointment, so we can see how it fits, check the bite and also the aesthetics of the denture, whilst the lab can still make adjustments as required. Finally the denture will be fitted by the dentist and they will ensure it fits well and make any final slight adjustments there and then.
Dentures best practices
You must remove your denture at night to rest your gums and they should be cleaned regularly. If the denture becomes uncomfortable at any point adjustments can be made by the dentist. If you have full upper and lower dentures you may think you don’t have to visits the dentist for your check-ups, however the dentist still needs to examine your soft tissues and check the dentures fit to make sure it’s still functioning to its best ability.

Our happy patients
“Very friendly and helpful staff,
I definitely will recommend to others.”
“This was the first time I had met Anit and she gave me a very thorough check up and good advice re dental care. I will be returning to her soon for the follow up work to be done.”
“On arrival, receptionist was friendly and polite. The dentist also was friendly and polite she explained the treatment.”
“As a long-term patient at the practice, I have witnessed a lot of change over the years but the one constant is the professionalism and caring side of the practice. I and my family use Denplan and come twice a year for check-ups/hygienists and are looked after very well. Yesterday, on my regular check-up, a part of my filling had broken so I was back today to sort it. To say my anxiety was high was an understatement! But the dental nurse was amazing and with the wonderful dentist, they got me through it in a very subtle but successful way! Their patience was so appreciated! A huge thank you from me.”
Both the dentist and the hygienist were very pleasant. They listened to what I had to say and responded well.
