Dental Extractions
A dental extraction is the term used to describe the removal of a tooth, our team are trained to do this as swiftly and efficiently as possible.
Why would you need a tooth extraction?
There are multiple reasons why a tooth may need to be extracted, most commonly it is because the tooth is no longer restorable from either being heavily decayed or the tooth nerve has died. Tooth extractions are usually the final resort as we will always try our best to save the natural tooth. Root canals are usually the preferred option, however unfortunately this does not have a 100% success rate.
Other reasons tooth extractions are performed
If you are thinking about having orthodontist treatment (braces), and there is overcrowding in the mouth, teeth may need to be extracted to give the remaining teeth more space to straighten.
Another common reason for tooth extraction is gum disease, this is because your teeth can become extremely mobile, making them unsavable. To prevent tooth loss from gum disease, it’s important to get it treated as soon as possible. If you are worried about losing your teeth, please ask a member of our team and they can discuss any concerns you may have.
How are teeth extracted?
Extractions are generally carried out under local anesthetic, this numbs the area of the extraction. However, if you’d prefer to be sedated whilst the tooth is removed we can accommodate for this. During your extraction you shouldn’t feel any pain, however you may feel a pressure sensation.
What is the extraction process?
Prior to having your tooth extracted, your dentist will discuss with you your tooth replacement options. The missing tooth may not only affect the aesthetic appearance of your teeth, but also the root resorption, which is when the bone starts to fade away, and could lead to further tooth loss.
We are able to offer multiple ways to replace missing teeth, including dental implants, bridges, and dentures. We will be happy to discuss all the suitable options for yourself.
Our happy patients
“Very friendly and helpful staff,
I definitely will recommend to others.”
“This was the first time I had met Anit and she gave me a very thorough check up and good advice re dental care. I will be returning to her soon for the follow up work to be done.”
“On arrival, receptionist was friendly and polite. The dentist also was friendly and polite she explained the treatment.”
“As a long-term patient at the practice, I have witnessed a lot of change over the years but the one constant is the professionalism and caring side of the practice. I and my family use Denplan and come twice a year for check-ups/hygienists and are looked after very well. Yesterday, on my regular check-up, a part of my filling had broken so I was back today to sort it. To say my anxiety was high was an understatement! But the dental nurse was amazing and with the wonderful dentist, they got me through it in a very subtle but successful way! Their patience was so appreciated! A huge thank you from me.”
Both the dentist and the hygienist were very pleasant. They listened to what I had to say and responded well.
